Telefís es una banda que vive más allá del recuerdo, pues luego de sorprender al mundo con una fiesta llamada a hAon, de la cual se derivaran temas como Mister Imperator, Mister Imperator Maurice and Charles REMIX, Mister Imperator (Dub Mix), Falun Gong Dancer, Falun Gong Dancer, Falun Gong Dancer Donkey’s Gudge Dub, Falun Gong Dancer EP, Ballytransnational, o Archbishop Beardmouth At The ChemOlympics, sorprenden al mundo de nueva cuenta con una muestra de la trascendencia del genio de Cathal Coughlan en la forma de un nuevo álbum, a Dó el cual llegará en formatos CD/Cassette/Digital el próximo 7 de Octubre de 2022, mientras que en Enero 20 de 2023 tendrá una edición limitada en vinilo azúl + poster, por lo que Jacknife Lee nos presenta un nuevo sencillo, el cual cuenta con la colaboración de Will Sergeant, el legendario letrista y guitarrista de la mítica Echo & The Bunnymen.

The Age Of Cling es un himno en celebración a la vida más allá de la mera existencia que representa ser o estar, pues si bien el sentido general de la vida es tener y mostrar, lo cierto es que sólo conseguirás la realización en la misma a partir de tu trascendencia más allá de los logros físicos en forma de aquella alegría y goce que transmites al hacer simple lo complicado, rebasando las fronteras de lo que en el plano de la mera subsistencia parecería inalcanzable.

«Sing sing, whistle and grin. All hail the age of cling”…this is one of my favorite Telefís songs. I sent Cathal an odd backing track of me playing steel drums, a beat through an echoplex and some Liquid Liquid style bass playing. He came back with with this hymn. It’s funny, sad and loaded. It’s Telefís pop music. I live in Topanga Canyon. You don’t usually get strangers knocking on the door but one day I did. It was a man with a Liverpudlian accent saying he heard I had guitar amps and could he borrow one. I knew who it was straight away. It’s unusual to have one of your musical heroes knock on your door, but there he was – Will Sergeant! Will fucking Sergeant! He was recording a soundtrack down the street with a mutual friend and needed some gear. Lucky for Telefís! Never one to miss an opportunity I asked him if he’d mind playing on a couple of our songs. After a few listens he just gave us the hook in the chorus. It’s so clear and simple and brilliant. Will is easily one of my favorite musicians. He’s such a unique player with an incredible tone. The hooks he comes up with are iconic and eternal. The post-punk era produced some of the most inventive players we have had – Will Sergeant, John McGeoch, The Edge, Andy Gill. They are still showing us how to surprise.

Le envié a Cathal una extraña pista de fondo mía tocando una batería de acero, un ritmo a través de un ecoplex y algo de bajo al estilo Liquid Liquid. Regresó con este himno. Es divertido, triste y cargado. Es la música pop de Telefís. Vivo en Topanga Canyon. No sueles tener extraños llamando a la puerta, pero un día sucedió. Era un hombre con acento de Liverpool diciendo que había oído que yo tenía amplificadores de guitarra y que podía prestarle uno. Supe quién era de inmediato. Es inusual que uno de tus héroes musicales llame a tu puerta, pero allí estaba: ¡Will Sergeant! Will jodido Sergeant! Estaba grabando una banda sonora calle abajo con un amigo en común y necesitaba algo de equipo. ¡Suerte para Telefís! Como nunca perdía una oportunidad, le pregunté si le importaría tocar un par de nuestras canciones. Después de algunas escuchas, nos dio el gancho en el coro. Es tan claro, simple y brillante. Will es fácilmente uno de mis músicos favoritos. Es un ejecutante único con un tono increíble. Los ganchos que se le ocurren son icónicos y eternos. La era post-punk produjo algunos de los ejecutantes más ingeniosos que hemos tenido: Will Sergeant, John McGeoch, The Edge, Andy Gill. Todavía nos están mostrando cómo sorprender.

Had a blast with Telefís high in the California mountains. I jammed while Jacknife Lee diverted my guitar sound through a myriad of effects and treatments. Right up my alley, sonic experiments on the fly.
