Telefís es una entidad viva y en movimiento, de manera tal que, siempre que Jacknife Lee tenga un nuevo fondo para la voz de Cathal Coughlan, la banda no dejará de sorprendernos tal como lo es el inminente lanzamiento de a Dó el cual llegará en formatos CD/Cassette/Digital el próximo 7 de Octubre de 2022, material que nos anunciaran con The Age Of Cling y que continúan en labor promocional con un nuevo sencillo, el cual estará disponible en todas las plataformas digitales a partir de ¡Ya!

The Carthaginians es la comprobación del viejo adagio que dice que mientras más cambian las cosas, más siguen siendo las mismas, pues si bien en algún momento renegaste de las generaciones anteriores por escuchar siempre lo mismo y entretenerse con Siempre En Domingo, ahora celebras escuchando las mismas canciones de toda la vida, representativas de catálogos de tendencias pasadas creadas por agencia de publicidad, mientras te pones en onda con las nuevas canciones para viejos chillones y esperas por ver a tus artistas favoritos en concierto, tal como alguna vez lo hicieran tus abuelos con Angélica, César, Enrique y Alberto, por separado o en bola, formato sinfónico o eléctrico, igual que tus papás con los artistas de los 80 y 90 según los programe el papz tour del momento.

When Cathal and I started conversations about what the themes for our second album “a Dó” might be, we kept coming back to the peculiarly Irish phenomenon of the ‘showband’, and certainly not in the dismissive way our teenage selves might have approached it but with a curiosity and excitement. Entertainment and community were important to us as teenagers in the late ’70s and the ’80s and all the bands featured in the video, from the Miami Showband to Nun Attax were born of this, and have more in common with each other than not. When Cathal and I were starting out the thought of us having similar goals and impulses as the regal showband or dickie rock would’ve made us laugh and maybe throw a punch, but now not so. There is a straight line through us all. The post-punk artists featured in the video (as well as the touring showbands) could only have been products of Ireland and we wanted to celebrate the oddness of it all. So we invented a showband and called them “The Carthaginians”. The song explores what it’s like to be in a band, the relationship with the audience, the internal dialogues, the branding, the town hopping, the dashed hopes, and the ridiculous fantasies
Cuando Cathal y yo iniciamos conversaciones sobre cuáles podrían ser los temas de nuestro segundo álbum «a Dó», seguimos volviendo al fenómeno peculiarmente irlandés de la ‘banda de espectáculos’, y ciertamente no de la forma desdeñosa en que nuestros adolescentes lo habrían abordado pero con curiosidad y entusiasmo. El entretenimiento y la comunidad eran importantes para nosotros cuando éramos adolescentes a finales de los 70 y los 80, y todas las bandas que aparecen en el video, desde Miami Showband hasta Nun Attax, nacieron de esto y tienen más en común entre sí que no. Cuando Cathal y yo comenzamos, la idea de que tuviéramos objetivos e impulsos similares a los de la majestuosa banda de espectáculos o el dickie rock nos habría hecho reír y tal vez dar un puñetazo, pero ahora no es así. Hay una línea recta a través de todos nosotros. Los artistas post-punk que aparecen en el video (así como las bandas de gira) solo podrían haber sido productos de Irlanda y queríamos celebrar la rareza de todo. Así que inventamos una banda de espectáculos y los llamamos “Los Cartagineses”. La canción explora cómo es estar en una banda, la relación con la audiencia, los diálogos internos, la marca, los viajes de ciudad en ciudad, las esperanzas frustradas y las fantasías ridículas.
