Fred Abong ha concluído un periodo de «regreso» para, finalmente, regresar de lleno a la música, luego de que, tras cimentar su carrera en bandas cómo Throwing Muses, Belly, Vicious Circle, y Verbal Assault, dedicara una temporada a su formación personal para retomar el camino cómo solista con Homeless EP, Pulsing EP, promocionar Firefly cómo sencillo, y salir de gira con Kristin Hersh, ahora anuncia la llegada de Our Mother of Perpetual Help (OMOPH), su nuevo larga duración, para el próximo 20 de Noviembre.

The Minit es ése espacio físico en el que te aislas del aquí y ahora para asimilar las circunstancias actuales y proyectarte hacia el futuro, de manera tal que, independiente a las emociones propias del duelo o la nostalgia, te pongas en condiciones de seguir adelante.

The songs on Our Mother of Perpetual Help (OMOPH) ‘showed up’ after I moved to New Orleans at the beginning of 2020. The swampy dream-magic of my new hometown no doubt seeped into and influenced the work. Only on reflection is this discernible, though, perhaps no more so than in the first ‘single’ (an industry term, not mine), ‘The Minit’. Processional and funereal, ‘The Minit’ is laced with images of parades, flowers, heaven, gloom, mud, blood, fire, disappearing, tenderness, and deception – things that innately hang in and saturate the New Orleans air.
Las canciones de Our Mother of Perpetual Help (OMOPH) ‘aparecieron’ después de que me mudé a Nueva Orleans a principios de 2020. La magia de los sueños pantanosos de mi nueva ciudad natal sin duda se filtró e influyó en el trabajo. Sin embargo, solo si se reflexiona, esto se puede discernir, quizás no más que en el primer ‘single’ (un término de la industria, no el mío), ‘The Minit’. Procesional y fúnebre, ‘The Minit’ está mezclado con imágenes de desfiles, flores, cielo, penumbra, barro, sangre, fuego, desaparición, ternura y engaño, cosas que innatamente cuelgan y saturan el aire de Nueva Orleans.

I am in no position to tell anyone what ‘The Minit’, or any other song for that matter, is about. ‘Aboutness’ is personal … it’s the job of the listener to figure that out for herself. I CAN say that when I listen to it I am reminded of my first few months in New Orleans. But that only partially captures things … the song and its’ imagery animate in me more esoteric thoughts and feelings, too. Like I said, though, these things are personal – they are my own ‘aboutness’. My hope is only that others find ‘The Minit’ to be about something to them as well.
No estoy en posición de decirle a nadie de qué se trata ‘The Minit’, o cualquier otra canción. ‘El Acerca De’ es personal … es el trabajo del oyente descubrirlo por sí mismo. PUEDO decir que cuando lo escucho me acuerdo de mis primeros meses en Nueva Orleans. Pero eso solo capta parcialmente las cosas … la canción y sus imágenes también animan en mí pensamientos y sentimientos más esotéricos. Sin embargo, como dije, estas cosas son personales, son mi propio «acercamiento». Mi esperanza es solo que otros encuentren que ‘The Minit’ también se trata de algo para ellos.
