Jonny Polonsky: Sign in the Window

Jonny Polonsky tiene ya en circulación su Kingdom of Sleep, material del cual nos ha presentado ya como sencillos el tema en el cual colabora Cedric Bixler-Zavala, Ghost Like Soul, cuyo vídeo promocional es obra de Paul Elledge, quien repite en éste nuevo sencillo promocional como realizador, dando forma a la visión onírica que iniciara con The Weeping Souls.

Sign in the Window es fijar la mirada con rumbo a casa una vez que el viaje inesperado inicia y avanza como consecuencia del destino, de manera tal que, sin importar las volteretas y cambios de dirección, buscarás saber si es que tu llamado incluye un boleto de entrada a lo que consideras tu hogar.

The song itself was originally written several years ago when I was living in LA. It’s a nocturnal number, a small, moody epic in the vein of Arcade Fire or the Pixies. It reminds me of what it felt like to be going down Mulholland Drive late at night in the summer with the windows rolled down, smelling the jasmine.
En sí misma, la canción fue escrita originalmente hace varios años cuando vivía en Los Ángeles. Es un número nocturno, una pequeña epopeya cambiante en la línea de Arcade Fire o The Pixies. Me recuerda lo que se siente al bajar Mulholland Drive a altas horas de la noche en verano con las ventanas cerradas, oliendo jazmín.
Some songs take a lot of coaxing and utilization of craft, even some (gasp!) planning or forethought. For this one though, I was playing guitar in bed one night and it just appeared. The song is a kind of yearning for transcendence, that feeling of knowing you’re on the threshold of new beginnings or a new way of being. It’s a thrilling and terrifying place to be. The world you were familiar with is no longer and the new one has yet to appear. You’re floating in space, feeling rootless and vulnerable, but you know deep in your core that everything will be okay if you can just relax and surrender to what’s happening.
Algunas canciones requieren mucha persuasión y usos artesanales, incluso algunas (¡jadeo!) de planificación o previsión. Sin embargo, para esta, estaba tocando la guitarra en la cama una noche y simplemente apareció. La canción es una especie de anhelo de trascendencia, esa sensación de saber que estás en el umbral de nuevos comienzos o una nueva forma de ser. Es un lugar emocionante y aterrador para estar. El mundo con el que estaba familiarizado ya no existe y el nuevo aún no ha aparecido. Estás flotando en el espacio, sintiéndote desarraigado y vulnerable, pero sabes en el fondo que todo estará bien si puedes relajarte y rendirte a lo que está sucediendo.
The video for ‘Sign In The Window’ was directed by my old friend Paul Elledge. He’s done videos, album art and photos for Smashing Pumpkins, Ministry, and countless other bands. He also directed the video for my song Ghost Like Soul, as well as other videos of mine, plus lots of my album covers. We made the video last November in Chicago, back when you could go anywhere. It was 35 degrees and the heater in the car didn’t work. It was brutal in a first world kinda way, and we had fun regardless of the weather.
El video de «Sign In The Window» fue dirigido por mi viejo amigo Paul Elledge. Ha hecho videos, portadas de álbumes y fotos para Smashing Pumpkins, Ministry y muchas otras bandas. También dirigió el video de mi canción Ghost Like Soul, así como otros videos míos, además de muchas de las portadas de mis álbumes. Hicimos el video en noviembre pasado en Chicago, cuando podías ir a cualquier parte. Hacía 1 grado centígrado y la calefacción del auto no funcionaba. Fue brutal en una onda de primer mundo, y nos divertimos sin importar el clima.
