The Shadow Majlis nos presentó The Departure, álbum donde Ali Jafri da muestra de lo que significa atravesar por el dolor y la tragedia para salir avante a partir del amor a aquello que fue, aceptación de lo que es, recuperando y depositando la fé en aquello que será, teniendo en su nuevo sencillo la generosidad de compartir con el mundo su experiencia a partir de la pérdida de su hijo Oisín, tema ya disponible digitalmente en plataformas como Spotify, Apple Music y Bandcamp.

Mazdur es la travesía que emprendes en compañía de Hipnos y Tánatos cuando el manto de su madre Nix te cubre para protegerte mientras cruzas el territorio de Érebo durante el proceso que significa el duelo por la pérdida definitiva del ser amado, sin rumbo fijo más allá de encontrar el consuelo que significa la aceptación del hecho para, así, regresar a la luz.

Mazdur means “labourer”, which came to me as İ watched how hard it was for Oisín to fight his losing battle to cancer. All the changes and adjustments. İ chose to have the song “mutate” through the different styles it weaves through. From the classical guitar to the dub reggae and ending on industrial with MRİ sounds mixed in. MRİs were hard on Oisín. Existing became hard labour for him but he wasnt ever far from having a laugh. He had a gracefulness about him which became apparent when it was observed by us as one of the constants through all the change. İ dream of him sometimes, he’s ever graceful then.

Going “dub” on this was David J’s idea – hard to refuse. When İ realized he wanted to play dubby stuff, my reaction was ummm hello?? Yes please! My demo was originally more like the first half of the song, which Bottrill and İ had worked on. We saw Skinny Puppy during our sessions, which inspired the industrial ending. We recorded it the next day as a good way to conclude the “mutation” furthest away from its original form. The ending was also a good place for some of the angst I was feeling and that Oisín was feeling. The machine voices say “We Come To Leave”, a recurring line on the album – making it a concept, I guess.

Mazdur significa “trabajador”, lo cual se me ocurrió cuando vi lo difícil que fue para Oisín luchar contra el cáncer, y estaba perdiendo. Todos los cambios y ajustes… Elegí que la canción “mutara” a través de los diferentes estilos que atraviesa. Desde la guitarra clásica hasta el dub reggae terminando en el industrial con sonidos MRİ mezclados. Los MRİ fueron duros para Oisín. Existir se convirtió en un trabajo duro para él, pero nunca estaba lejos de reírse. Tenía una gracia en él que se hizo evidente cuando lo observamos como una de las constantes a través de todos los cambios. A veces sueño con él, siempre es elegante.

Hacer “dub” en esto fue idea de David J, es difícil rechazarlo. Cuando me di cuenta de que quería tocar cosas dub, mi reacción fue: ummm, ¿hola? ¡Sí, por favor! Mi demo originalmente era más como la primera mitad de la canción, en la que Bottrill y yo habíamos trabajado. Checamos Skinny Puppy durante nuestras sesiones, lo que inspiró el final industrial. Lo grabamos al día siguiente como una buena manera de concluir la «mutación» más alejada de su forma original. El final también fue un buen lugar para expresar parte de la angustia que yo sentía, que Oisín sentía. Las voces de la máquina dicen «We Come To Leave», una línea recurrente en el álbum, lo que la convierte en un concepto, supongo.
