The Persian Leaps tiene la mira puesta en el lanzamiento de su Drone Etiquette para el próximo 1° de Octubre, por lo que, siguiendo al anuncio junto con la presentación de When This Gets Out como primer extracto de éste material, tienen un nuevo sencillo de la mano con Land Ski Records, siguiendo la tradición de presentar material nuevo cada año, la cual iniciaran con el Praise Elephants EP de 2013, siguiera con el Drive Drive Delay EP de 2014, y mantuviera ése formato hasta el Bicycle Face EP del 2017, para continuar con su antología Pop That Goes Crunch, seguida del Electrical Living LP en 2019, para llegar a nuestra audiencia con el Smiling Lessons EP en 2020, teniendo el nuevo sencillo como una exclusiva de Bandcamp, junto con la preventa del nuevo disco, en tanto llega la fecha de su presentación, justo en la cual estará disponible también en plataformas como Apple Music y Spotify.

Sweeps es la realidad de la conformación del gusto en las masas, que si bien siempre tendrán algo qué decir respecto a las nuevas tendencias y formas de expresión artística para su consumo, las cuáles son determinadas no por una cuestión de criterio artístico, sino de alcances en ventas, de manera tal que deberíamos preguntarnos si en realidad tenemos un verdadero «gusto» basado en nuestras preferencias, o simplemente corremos detrás del platillo y los combos de moda, diseñados de acuerdo a las necesidades de la industria y no del consumidor.

The song ‘Sweeps’ uses the television industry as a metaphor for desperation and failure. I started with the main riff and these lines and then built a song around them: They decided when we leave / They’ll put the whole thing on TV / And the ratings will determine our return. I’m not sure if it still matters during the streaming era, but “sweeps week” was a period when broadcast television networks would go all-out to achieve the highest possible ratings so they could charge more for advertising. Sweeps inspired some cheap, crazy, desperate stunts over the years – like the “Happy Days” episode where Fonzi jumps over a shark on water skis, which led to the phrase «jump the shark».
La canción «Sweeps» utiliza la industria de la televisión como metáfora de la desesperación y el fracaso. Comencé con el riff principal y estas líneas y luego construí una canción a su alrededor: Decidieron cuándo nos vamos / Lo pondrán todo en la televisión / Y los ratings determinarán nuestro regreso. The exact subject of the song is open for interpretation. I wasn’t thinking about a romantic relationship when writing this song, although you could certainly interpret it that way. Usually, however, these things are about the band and my struggles with success and achieving wider recognition for the Persian Leaps. That’s the story I’d like to go with—»last release, we were on top of the world but this time around, things aren’t going well and we’re one bad review away from cancellation.” Of course, we were never actually on top of the world, and the new EP is FANTASTIC, but I’m entitled to take some artistic license. Nevertheless, just to be safe, buy “Drone Etiquette” and help send our ratings through the roof.
El tema exacto de la canción está abierto a interpretación. No estaba pensando en una relación romántica al escribir esta canción, aunque ciertamente podrías interpretarla de esa manera. Sin embargo, por lo general, estas cosas tienen que ver con la banda y mis luchas por lograr el éxito y lograr un reconocimiento más amplio para los Pearsian Leaps.
