Dope Sagittarius es la banda con la que Luqman Brown, a quien se puede recordar como parte de FunkFace, edita Sacred Places, su nuevo álbum de estudio, luego de cerca de 4 años en una muy accidentada ruta donde la vida y la muerte le pusieran, además de un retraso, una nueva perspectiva del aquí y ahora por lo que, siendo que éste disco se encuentra ya en plataformas digitales como Apple Music o Spotify, su edición en vinilo de 12″ puede ordenarse ya en Bandcamp, como preventa, también disponible en Buddhabug Records, en tanto que su llegada a tiendas está programada para el 14 de Mayo próximo.

Define Love es una lección aprendida a través del dolor más profundo y su catarsis a partir de la creación más honesta y sincera que se puede realizar, expresando en ésta aquello que las palabras por sí solas no alcanzan a explicar.

Define Love is a really special song for me and the first real love song I’ve written. I had Micah Gaugh (The Veldt, Burnt Sugar, The Arkestra Chamber) playing sax, jazz luminary Marc Cary (who’s played with Dizzy Gillespie and Meshell Ndegeocello) on piano, the incomparable Corey Glover (Living Colour) on backup vocals and finally, the Master himself, Ronny Drayton (who’s played with everybody from the Persuaders and The Chambers Brothers to Defunkt, Nona Hendryx, and 24-7 Spyz) on guitar. Unfortunately Ronny passed away in 2020. He inspired me by teaching me to be a better guitar player and just because of how great and good he was. The video for this song is dedicated to him. (R.I.P.).
Define Love es una canción realmente especial para mí y la primera canción de amor real que he escrito. Being able to properly put this record out into the world means that I didn’t give up in the face of death. This album was supposed to be released in 2017, but I had a stroke as a result of severe complications with my heart. In 2019, I underwent heart surgery to place an LVAD in my heart to keep it pumping. The result of these health complications left me weak and without the breath to perform.
Ser capaz de publicar correctamente este disco en el mundo significa que no me rendí ante la muerte. Se suponía que este álbum se lanzaría en 2017, pero tuve un derrame cerebral como resultado de graves complicaciones con mi corazón. En 2019, me sometí a una cirugía de corazón para colocar un DAVI en mi corazón para que siguiera bombeando. El resultado de estas complicaciones de salud me dejó débil y sin aliento para trabajar.

At the time, I thought that myself and this album would never make it out into the world—as proud as I am of it. Nevertheless, I slowly came back and now the world will get to hear what it’s like living in NYC everyday—hard times, staying alive, and taking the time to have a good brunch along the way.
En ese momento, pensé que este álbum y yo nunca saldríamos al mundo, tan orgulloso como estoy de él. Sin embargo, regresé lentamente y ahora el mundo podrá escuchar cómo es vivir en Nueva York todos los días: tiempos difíciles, mantenerse con vida y tomarse el tiempo para tener un buen brunch en el camino.
