Otherworldly Things es una banda formada en NYC durante 2014, llegando a nuestra audiencia cerca de 10 años después con Time Turns To Memories, el primer sencillo de su nuevo EP de 5 canciones, editado vía la disquera establecida en Montclair, NJ, Magic Door Records, siendo éste material la continuación del álbum debut de la banda, Beeline to the A-List del 2017.
Heavy Dream Cycle EP es el regreso de la banda tras una prolongada pausa por motivos mundialmente conocidos, con el mundo regresando a lo considerado normal, Jim Browne hizo lo propio trabajando nuevas canciones en Serious Business Records en Brooklyn con Travis Harrison (Guided By Voices, Built To Spill), quien se une a la banda en batería y percusión, con un notable pizzazz, siendo éste material masterizado en Listen Up Studios por Jamal Ruhe (Guided by Voices, Phoebe Bridgers, Death, Jimmy Eat World, Misfits).
Otherworldly Things logra en Tired of Monsters, No Use, Work Out Right, Time Turns to Memories, Escape, una breve guía de como tratar con la llamada nueva normalidad, el status quo que tiene al mundo al borde de la histeria por situaciones derivadas a partir del encierro y problemas que con el mismo se acrecentaron en la cordura del individuo de a pie, amplificados por la información que corre en redes sociales y medios masivos.
Heavy Dream Cycle EP está disponible a partir de Febrero 16en plataformas como Bandcamp, Apple Music, Spotify y Amazon, así como directamente con la banda.
I wrote ‘Tired of Monsters’ in 2020 when you couldn’t turn on the news without seeing one form of monster or another. I wrote ‘No Use’ shortly after. We first recorded those two songs, along with ‘Work Out Right’, which I had written much earlier. On this song, I play a repeated note on the very violin that my grandfather bought with him when they moved from Ireland to Harlem in 1926.
Having just three songs recorded, I thought to myself that this is neither a single nor EP. Then I wrote ‘Time Turns to Memories’, a big sounding recording that we pulled out all the bells and whistles for. I had the song ‘Escape’ kicking around for a long time. I recorded it live to tape at Jason’s and said it needs some ambient noise added. Jason picked up a cello, which I didn’t even know he owned and laid down a great track. That’s when I knew we had a complete and really good EP.

Escribí ‘Tired Of Monsters’ en 2020 cuando no podías ver las noticias sin percibir una forma u otra de monstruo. Escribí ‘No Use’ poco después. Primero grabamos esas dos canciones, junto con ‘Work Out Right’, que había escrito mucho antes. En esta canción, toco una nota repetida en el mismo violín que mi abuelo trajo con él cuando se mudaron de Irlanda a Harlem en 1926.
Habiendo grabado sólo tres canciones, pensé que esto no es ni un single ni un EP. Luego escribí ‘Time Turns to Memories’, una grabación con un gran sonido a la que le sacamos todos los detalles. Tuve ‘Escape’ dando vueltas durante mucho tiempo. La grabé en vivo en casa de Jason y dije que necesitaba agregar algo de ruido ambiental. Jason cogió un violonchelo, que ni siquiera sabía que tenía y grabó una gran canción. Fue entonces cuando supe que teníamos un EP completo y realmente bueno.
