Rational Youth es una de las bandas pioneras del llamado New Wave en Canadá, y más allá de todo éso, ponen de manifiesto el hecho de que si una banda independiente no apuesta por el registro físico de sus obras, estás perderán peso y trascendencia con el paso del tiempo, toda vez que, contrario a ésta regla, el trabajo realizado en Cold War Night Life, su álbum debut que data de 1982, ha valido para que la banda se reúna en varias ocasiones, dado el peso de su temática relacionada con el tema de la Guerra Fría y que, a la luz de los tiempos que corren, ameritara una reedición a cargo de Universal Music, en digital, vinyl, y CD, cargada de material extra.
Saturdays in Silesia es el tema de aquellos que, sin un futuro prometedor en apariencia, viviendo en un estado de sitio social, derivado de la política gubernamental en turno, se las ingenian para dar muestra de libertad e ingeniárselas para, a partir del ejemplo, inspirar a quienes les siguen, con el objetivo de que las cosas se sucedan mejor.
The most remarkable thing about making this album, from an historical perspective, was the fact that we were making an all-synthesizer pop album, and in Montreal in 1981-82 that was pretty new.

A lot of our arrangements and all the synth sounds were worked out at home and sequenced, so when we got to the studio we would set all the synths up and patch everything, tell the engineer to put machine in record and roll the tape, we’d start the MC-4 MicroComposer and half a song would instantly go to tape. The rock and roll engineers we had were kind of stunned by this, and by the fact that we were using a drum machine (a Roland TR-808, one of the first on Canadian shores).
Lo más notable de hacer este álbum, desde una perspectiva histórica, fue el hecho de que estábamos haciendo un álbum pop con sintetizadores en su totalidad, y en Montreal en 1981-82 fue bastante nuevo.
