Quiz Show es el trio establecido en New Jersey, integrado por el también parte de Shudder To Think, Chris Matthews, el bajista Jesse Krakow, complementados por Joe Billy, quien reemplaza al baterista original, Kevin March (Guided By Voices, The Dambuilders), quienes llegan a nuestra audiencia para anunciarnos la llegada de su Flotsam EP, editado vía la disquera de Montclair, NJ, Magic Door Record Label, estando ya éste sencillo disponible en plataformas como Apple Music, Spotify y Bandcamp, mientras que el Flotsam EP llegará en Marzo 29 y está en preventa directa con la banda.

Super Concrete es la declaratoria de aceptación cuando reconoces como legítima una circunstancia que no es la tuya pero, a partir de la razón y el entendimiento, encuentras que pese a lo ajeno de la situación hay un derecho legítimo a establecerse, especialmente cuando no hay conflicto ni afectación a terceros más allá de la opinión de los ignorantes y su necesidad de tener la razón a partir del rechazo a lo que no conocen y, quizás, guardan en un personaje oculto al interior.

Super Concrete was the name of the company my brother worked for before he passed. He was a different sort of person, mostly a source of the unexpected, and usually trouble. Many wrote him off as poorly adjusted – as flotsam – but that’s not even close. So, while he may have lived a nontraditional life working at Super Concrete, living in DC’s gay community, and making a home with his boyfriend, he created a life of beauty and purpose.

These songs are the first that the current Quiz Show lineup wrote together from scratch. We each added our instrumental work and vocals, but in the process discovered something new and unexpected– a whole that was far more than the sum of its parts. This EP offers three original songs that tell stories about living – both now and in the past. There is something melancholy about the record, but also a resonant chord of joy and perseverance.

Super Concrete era el nombre de la empresa para la que trabajaba mi hermano antes de fallecer. Era un tipo diferente de persona, sobre todo una fuente de imprevistos y, por lo general, de problemas. Muchos lo descartaron como mal adaptado – como una etiqueta – pero eso ni siquiera está cerca. Entonces, si bien pudo haber vivido una vida no tradicional trabajando en Super Concrete, viviendo en la comunidad gay de DC y formando un hogar con su novio, creó una vida de belleza y propósito.

Estas canciones son las primeras que la alineación actual de Quiz Show escribieron juntas desde cero. Cada uno de nosotros agregamos nuestro trabajo instrumental y vocal, pero en el proceso descubrimos algo nuevo e inesperado: un todo que era mucho más que la suma de sus partes. Este EP ofrece tres canciones originales que cuentan historias sobre la vida, tanto ahora como en el pasado. Hay algo de melancolía en el disco, pero también un acorde resonante de alegría y perseverancia.
