Rose Alaimo es una artista residente en New York que llega con su A Place To Go When You Need To Hide LP bajo el brazo, álbum producido y masterizado por Jamie Hill (Nada Surf, Zola Jesus, House of Pain) en el Department of Energy Management en Tacoma, con el sencillo promocional que sucede a Stars, con los antecedentes de su álbum debut, The Importance of Centers del 2019, y el Grow del 2021, teniendo ya su más reciente disco disponible en plataformas digitales como Bandcamp, Spotify y Apple Music.

Power Lines es el recordatorio de que, si bien no existe un vínculo evidente, lo cierto es que hay una responsabilidad que la gente dedicada a cuestiones del tipo esotérico denomina «vibra», la cual puede ser o no percibida, bien o mal interpretada, por quienes nos rodean en los diferentes contextos en los que de alguna manera nos conectamos pero el control de la misma depende de cada cual como emisor y su frecuencia no debe bajar su intensidad ante la nula o baja respuesta del entorno porque, al final, recibes aquello que transmites, en ocasiones de manera inesperada.

The song ‘Power Lines’ is about the connections that exist between us, whether we are aware of them or not. One thing that was highlighted during Covid was how unbelievably interconnected we are. How fast the virus spread across the world was astounding, and in the middle of everyone debating mask and vaccination mandates and people becoming increasingly stressed and angry and there being more and more division between everyone, a tree was blown over on my property, taking the power lines down in front of my house. I walked outside and, after the shock of seeing this healthy tree ripped up by the roots by a strong wind, I noticed the lines that were down.

I saw how they were connected to my house, and how the main lines also connected to my neighbor’s house, and how those same lines connected every single house on the street. I never stopped to notice how physically connected all of these houses were by these power lines and how what happened to my house affected everyone else around me. It struck me as an interesting analogy to how we as humans are also all more connected to each other and to the world around us than we might initially assume. These connections may not be visible but they are definitely there. We can spread viruses to each other and we can spread anger and fear, but if we are mindful of this interconnectedness, we can also choose to spread GOOD things: kindness and understanding and peace.

La canción ‘Power Lines’ trata sobre las conexiones que existen entre nosotros, seamos conscientes de ellas o no. Una cosa que se destacó durante el Covid fue lo increíblemente interconectados que estamos. Fue asombrosa la rapidez con la que el virus se propagó por todo el mundo, y en medio de que todos debatían sobre los mandatos de vacunación y mascarillas y la gente estaba cada vez más estresada y enojada y había cada vez más división entre todos, un árbol fue derribado en mi propiedad, llevándose la Líneas eléctricas caídas frente a mi casa. Salí y, después del shock de ver este árbol sano arrancado de raíz por un fuerte viento, noté las líneas que estaban caídas.

Vi cómo estaban conectadas a mi casa, y cómo las líneas principales también conectaban con la casa de mi vecino, y cómo esas mismas líneas conectaban cada casa de la calle. Nunca me detuve a notar cuán físicamente conectadas estaban todas estas casas por estas líneas eléctricas y cómo lo que sucedió en mi casa afectó a todos los que me rodeaban. Me pareció una analogía interesante de cómo nosotros, como seres humanos, también estamos más conectados entre nosotros y con el mundo que nos rodea de lo que inicialmente podríamos suponer. Es posible que estas conexiones no sean visibles, pero definitivamente están ahí. Podemos transmitirnos virus unos a otros y podemos transmitir ira y miedo, pero si somos conscientes de esta interconexión, también podemos optar por difundir cosas BUENAS: bondad, comprensión y paz.
